POISONOUS PROBLEM?
BUSINESSES OFFERED FREE DISPOSAL OF PESTICIDES
Charlotte, NC - Many industries use heavy-duty pesticides in the course of their business - landscapers, golf courses, farmers and others. While homeowners are offered free disposal of pesticides and other hazardous waste at the County’s full-service recycling centers, disposal of unwanted or unused pesticides is expensive for commercial enterprises. As a result, unwanted pesticides often wind up sitting in storage buildings with the potential to contaminate air, land or water.
To remove these products safely, Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension and the N.C. Department of Agriculture are offering businesses a one-day opportunity to dispose of their unused and unwanted pesticides at no charge.
· Thursday, July 29, 2004
· 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
· Compost Central, 5631 West Boulevard, Charlotte
Businesses can bring their unused and unwanted pesticide for free disposal at Compost Central. The pesticides will be processed and disposed of safely.
For more information on safe pesticide disposal, contact Jim Monroe at Mecklenburg County Cooperative Extension at 704-336-4006.
