Charlotte, NC - The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department has entered into a long-term program with the Charlotte Bobcats and Coca-Cola to refurbish basketball courts across the County.
The Bobcats and Coke announced the partnership on August 19 at Camp Greene Park in west Charlotte on a newly refurbished court painted to simulate the Bobcats court. The court and goals feature the Bobcats and Sprite logos, as Sprite is the official soft drink of the NBA.
The new courts will serve thousands of youth and adult basketball enthusiasts in large and small park and recreation center environments. "Our joint partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation allows both Coca-Cola and the Bobcats to promote physical activity for Charlotte area youth," said Frank Harrison, Coca-Cola Consolidated Chairman and CEO.
Park and Recreation director Wayne Weston praised Coca-Cola and the Bobcats for the basketball court renovation project. "We are thrilled about this long-term partnership spearheaded by the dynamic, civic leadership of Coca-Cola and the Bobcats," Weston said. "We recognize that the commitment of Coca-Cola and the Bobcats will significantly enhance our public park and recreation facilities, including 101 outdoor and 21 indoor basketball courts. We want to thank Coca-Cola Consolidated and the Bobcats for their generous contribution to the quality of life in Mecklenburg County."
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation operates 130 athletic fields throughout the system, for sports ranging from baseball, football, soccer, golf, and even disc golf. There are also dozens of playgrounds. For more information about Park and Recreation facilities, visit
