Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County's many online mapping services are among the best in the nation, according to judges in a national competition. The County's Information Services & Technology department announces that its Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, placed second in the Center for Digital Government's "Best of the Web" competition. The recognition was in the "Government to Citizen" category.
Mecklenburg County has made a commitment to E-government, improving and enhancing how residents conduct County business online. The results of these efforts are bearing fruit in the greater number of services available online and awards such as "Best of the Web."
The award recognizes eleven Mecklenburg County GIS online applications that provide powerful and frequently used services to its citizens:

The Best of the Web contest is sponsored by the Center for Digital Government, the Center for Digital Education, Government Technology magazine, and Converge Online. Of the 58 awards presented, this is the only award presented for GIS applications.
