Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County residents are known to appreciate the benefit and need for trees in a rapidly developing region. That's why the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District and Charlotte Storm Water Services are teaming up to offer a variety of tree seedlings and reduced-price rain barrels for sale.

Hardwood seedlings will sell for $1.00 apiece and include flowering dogwood, redbud, red maple, willow oak, river birch, black gum, southern red oak, yellow poplar, beauty berry, and sweet shrub. Evergreen seedlings will sell for $5.00 for a bundle of ten and include longleaf pine, loblolly pine, and red cedar.
SAVE THE RAIN: In addition to planting more trees, consider saving water for the next dry spell. Three rain barrel sizes will also be available: a 55-gallon for $60.00, a 60-gallon for $85.00, and an 80-gallon for $100.00. The barrels differ in appearance, so check the Web site

Other organizations, including Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities, Charlotte Storm Water Services, Mecklenburg County Solid Waste and Recycling, North Carolina Wildlife Federation, N.C. Forest Service and other groups will have booths at the sale with useful conservation information.
