Charlotte, NC - National County Government Week is April 10 - 16, 2005. To celebrate, Mecklenburg County will put its departments and services on display at Eastland Mall on Saturday, April 16 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The County’s Health Department will offer screenings, immunizations and other health services on this special day. See your tax dollars at work:

• Health screenings

• Park and Recreation

• Department of Social Services Youth and Family Services

• Mapping and geography

• Air, water and land.

• Keep Mecklenburg Beautiful

• Medic

• "The Mecklenburgers"

In 2000, Mecklenburg County's Public Service & Information Department created "MeckFest" to help celebrate National County Government Week. MeckFest was held on the grounds of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center in downtown Charlotte.

In 2004, Mecklenburg County began partnering with Eastland Mall to take the services to the people with an event we call "Mecklenburg at the Mall." Participating County departments exhibit their services inside the mall, providing information about how tax dollars are spent, how to keep Mecklenburg County clean and safe, and how to take advantage of the many services the County offers. Mecklenburg at the Mall is underwritten by Duke Power.
