City/County 4th of July Closings
The City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County will close most administrative offices on Monday, July 4.

Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County and City of Charlotte government offices and agencies will be closed on Monday, July 4, for Independence Day. 


County Solid Waste's administrative offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, July 4 except Compost Central, which will be open 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. City Solid Waste Services customers will receive normal collection service during the holiday week.  However, some neighborhoods will become a part of the City of Charlotte on June 30, 2005.  Neighborhoods that are a part of this annexation should have already received a post card notifying them of their City of Charlotte garbage and recycling collection date.  Customers may verify their collection day by visiting the Address Information Center ( ).

Buses operated by CATS (Charlotte Area Transit System) will operate on a Sunday schedule on July 4.  No express service will operate on that day except 42X, the Carowinds Express.  Charlotte Trolley will operate on a Saturday schedule also, with an extended service to 12 midnight to accommodate the fireworks display, Sky Show Uptown.  Visitors to the uptown area for Sky Show Uptown need to note that some streets will be closed for safety purposes.


Mecklenburg County Substance Abuse Center (Detox) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  


The Department of Social Services Care Line - 704-336-CARE (2273) - operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to receive reports of suspected abuse or neglect of children and elderly or disabled adults. 

The Health Department clinics will be closed on Monday, July 4.    

The Main Library and all library branches will be closed on Monday, July 4.

Park and Recreation administrative offices will be closed on Monday, July 4.  All other County parks and recreation centers will be open normal hours on July 4, including the Nature Centers.  The Aquatic Center and Marion Diehl pool will operate on holiday hours: 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Ray's Splash Planet will operate on holiday hours: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Outdoor pools will be open regular hours: Noon - 6:00 p.m.
