Freedom Park 5k Promises Scenic Run on August 20

Charlotte, NC - Runners of all skill levels are invited to the inaugural Freedom Park 5k Run on August 20, 2005 at 7:30 a.m.

This USATF certified course promises to present a challenging and scenic route through and around Freedom Park. The 5k run will start and finish at Westfield Drive and Brandywine Road. Freedom Park is at 1900 East Blvd.

This 5k Run is sponsored by Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department and Racescapes Events. Proceeds will go to Partners for Parks and Carolina Breast Friends, whose mission is to create a positive environment for women with breast cancer by providing education, encouragement, and friendship."

Registration fee for runners is $15 until August 12, $20 for August 13 -19, and $25 on race day. The first 150 registrants will receive a T-shirt. Awards will be presented for overall winners and age group winners.

There will also be a 5k walk associated with this event. The registration fee for walkers will be $15 and the first 100 to register will receive a high quality t-shirt. There will be food, music, and fun for everyone.

Register online at www.racescapes.com. Registration forms are available at Racescapes, 408 Ideal Way, Charlotte, NC 28203. Packet pick-up will be 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. August 18 and 19 at Charlotte Running Company, 1412-G East Blvd. Day of event registration begins at 6:30 a.m. on site.
