September 24: Family Fun Run Starts at Freedom Park Locomotive;5K Course Will Wind Along Little Sugar Creek Greenway

Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department invites runners of all ages to participate in a 5K Family Fun Run at Freedom Park and along parts of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway on Saturday, September 24.

The Family Fun Run begins at 8 a.m. at the locomotive beside the playground inside Freedom Park, 1900 East Boulevard. Runners are urged to pre-register and will receive free T-shirts. Registration forms are available at the home page of the parks department Web site Contact Aaron Cheeks at 704 336-7644 for registration information.

The registration fee is $15 per person on or before September 16, $20 from September 16-23, and $25 on the day of the race. There is also a family registration for $25 (includes two T-shirts). Day-of-event registration begins at 6:30 a.m.

This event promises to be a pleasant scamper (not a championship race) through beautiful scenery with many prizes in a fundraiser to benefit Partners for Parks, Inc. Partners for Parks is a non-profit group that helps support parks, greenways, open space, and recreation in Mecklenburg County. The 5K Family Fun Run is organized by the Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department, Partners for Parks, Inc. and the Greenway Advisory Council.
