COMMISSIONER NORMAN MITCHELL APPOINTED TO HEART DISEASE AND STROKE PREVENTION TASK FORCE
Charlotte, NC - Mecklenburg County Commissioner Norman A. Mitchell Sr. has been appointed to serve on the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force.
North Carolina Speaker of the House James Black appointed Commissioner Mitchell in the County Commissioner position. Commissioner Mitchell will serve on the Task force through June 2007.
The mission of the Justus-Warren Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention Task Force is to prevent premature deaths and disabilities due to heart disease and stroke in North Carolina. In 1998, North Carolina was awarded funding from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to implement a state-based cardiovascular health program, now called the North Carolina Heart Disease & Stroke Prevention Program. In 2002, the CDC awarded continuation funding for this program through 2007.
The Task Force and the HDSP Program focus on systems-level change to create communities, work places, schools and health care systems that are supportive of cardiovascular health promotion and cardiovascular disease prevention. For more information on the Task Force and the HDSP Program, visit
