AMERICA RECYCLES DAY: CELEBRATE RECYCLING AND WASTE REDUCTION WITH MECKLENBURG COUNTY
Charlotte, NC - Recycling is more than just dropping bottles and cans and newspapers into a red bin. It's disposing of your yard waste in an environmentally friendly manner. It's making sure tires, used motor oil and household chemicals are taken where they can be turned into something useful. It's reusing the rain to water your lawn.
This is what America Recycles Day 2005 is all about.
• Saturday, October 8
• 9 a.m. - 2 p.m.
• McDowell Nature Center, 15222 York Road in southwest Mecklenburg County.
Mecklenburg County will celebrate America Recycles Day with "The Green Village: A Festival of Recycling and Conservation." The village will feature an arts-and-crafts fair and a yard sale. There will be interactive exhibits, games, make-it-and-take-it crafts, and prize drawings.
There will also be a variety of demonstrations: including the reuse of resources, making crafts from scraps, rains barrels, compost bins and how to compost using used coffee grounds. There will also be a demonstration of a hybrid Honda Civic. A yard sale will be ongoing.
Participants will learn about reducing, reusing and recycling, to increase their recycling activities and learning to close the loop by purchasing products made from recycled materials. For more details about "The Green Village" and America Recycles Day, visit
