Library wins prestigious national award
(Charlotte) - Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County is winner of a 2006 John Cotton Dana Library Public Relations Award. It is the highest honor an American library can win for a public relations campaign. The Library won for "Bringing the Story to Life," a campaign to celebrate the opening of ImaginOn, the innovative new space that combines a library and children's theater. In their comments, judges said "Staff overcame a number of hurdles, including some last-minute negative publicity, and responded with a magnificent public relations effort that resulted in attendance and media coverage at their grand opening events exceeding all expectations."
ImaginOn, The Joe and Joan Martin center, opened in October 2005 and has enjoyed critical and customer accolades from day one.
