Charlotte, NC – A "no swimming" advisory issued October 4 for a portion of Lake Wylie has been lifted. The advisory was issued for Paw Creek Cove, located off Walkers Cove Trail in Charlotte. The Mecklenburg County Water Quality Program (MCWQP) and the Mecklenburg County Health Department lifted the advisory on Monday, October 16 following the receipt of laboratory results indicating lower levels of bacteria.
The "no swimming" advisory was in effect for a portion of Paw Creek Cove in Lake Wylie. The remainder of the lake was not affected. The advisory was issued as a result of elevated bacteria levels that were detected following a sewer leak to the lake off Walker Cove Trail.
Water samples have been collected in the cove on a regular basis since the advisory was issued. Bacteria levels have shown a continued decline since last week. Sampling results received on October 16 by MCWQP were well within the levels safe for swimming.
