Charlotte, NC – The Department of Social Services will accept applications for the N.C. Low Income Energy Assistance Program November 6 – 17, 2006. The federally funded program will provide a one-time check in February 2007, to help eligible households with heating costs.
The Department of Social Services will accept applications for the N.C. Low Income Energy Assistance Program November 6 – 17, 2006. The federally funded program will provide a one-time check in February 2007, to help eligible households with heating costs.
This year, 16,744 households in Mecklenburg County received the help, and payments totaled $1,049,345.
Eligible households must meet an income test, be responsible for paying heating bills, not have assets over $2,200 and include an U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen. Residents must apply for the program in the county where they live. Apply at the following sites in Mecklenburg County:
· Friendship Community Enrichment Center at 3239 Beatties Ford Road in Charlotte (9 a.m. - 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; Once on Saturday, November 11, from 9 a.m. - noon)
· Bethlehem Center - Southside Homes at 2705 Baltimore Ave. in Charlotte ((November 8, 9 a.m. - noon, and November 9, from 1 p.m. - 5 p.m.)
· Ada Jenkins Community Center at 212 Gamble St. in Davidson, N.C. (November 7, 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)

Please bring verification of the following information:
- October pay stubs for employed household members
- October child care receipts
- October unearned income such as award letters
- October bank statements for savings accounts and checking accounts
- Verification of stocks, bonds, mutual funds, savings certificates
- Verification of retirement funds: for example, IRA, Keogh, etc.
- Name, date of birth, and social security cards for each household member
- Verification of the identity of the person making the application
