Time to Get Registered
The Board of Elections is making voter registration easier by opening neighborhood locations.

September 25, 2006

Charlotte, NC - W.C. Fields once said "I never vote for anyone. I always vote against." But you can't do either unless you're registered to vote.

September is Citizens Voter Registration Awareness Month in North Carolina. With more than 1.5 million unregistered voters in North Carolina, Mecklenburg County's Board of Elections is participating in the state's 9th annual statewide voter registration drive.

The Board of Elections has enlisted volunteers to conduct voter registration at the following locations:

  • September 28: Central Piedmont Community College, Central Campus Green, Elizabeth Avenue, 10 a.m. - noon
  • September 30: Wal-Mart locations from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.
    - 8180 South Tryon Street
    - 3304 Eastway Drive
    - 8709 JW Clay Boulevard
    - 3240 Wilkinson Boulevard
    - 3209 Pineville Matthews Road
  • October 4: CPCC Levine Campus, 2800 Campus Ridge Road, Matthews, 11:30 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.

All locations will have a voting machine to demonstrate to voters and potential voters.

The deadline to register for the 2006 General Election is October 13. The General Election will be held on November 7. The following offices are on the ballot in Mecklenburg County: U.S. House, N.C. Senate, N.C. House, N.C. Supreme Court, N.C. Court of Appeals, County Commission, District Attorney, Clerk of Superior Court, Sheriff, Soil & Water Conservation District, Superior Court Judges, District Court Judges, and City of Charlotte bonds.
