The Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District wants to help farmers and other agricultural businesses (such as nurseries) prevent water pollution. The state has allocated to Mecklenburg this fiscal year. These funds are available to help such landowners install conservation practices on their land.
It's the "
Agriculture Cost Share Program," a statewide program intended to reduce water pollution from agricultural activities. Practices could include:
- Grassed waterways
- Agrichemical handling facilities
- Stream bank restoration
- Critical area planting
- Nutrient Management
- ...much more.
These practices help decrease the amount of sediment, nitrogen, phosphorous, chemical and other pollutants in North Carolina's surface and ground waters. Landowners can apply for the funds through the Mecklenburg Soil and Water Conservation District.
