Beginning in April, Mecklenburg County will have a new person in charge of the County's cash.
County Manager Harry L. Jones, Sr. announced on February 13 that the Board of County Commissioners has appointed Dena R. Diorio as Mecklenburg County Finance Director, effective April 2. Ms. Diorio currently serves as Director of Finance and Personnel for the City of Danbury, CT. She previously worked for the City of Stamford, CT. Ms. Diorio also spent ten years working for New York City in various roles, including the Mayor's office of operations, legislative affairs, sanitation, and general services.
County Manager Harry Jones says Ms. Diorio is a proven financial leader. "She has been successful in three municipalities - urban and suburban," he said. "She has managed in a community with a Triple-A bond rating and maintained that rating. She has developed initiatives to reduce spending and develop non-tax revenues. I'm confident she can raise the bar even higher for our well-run finance department to the benefit of taxpayers."
"I am very impressed with the progressive nature of Mecklenburg County government and its staff," said Diorio. "They're doing some innovative and interesting things with respect to public administration and management. I'm looking forward to contributing to that."
Ms. Diorio is a native of Westchester County, NY. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh and a Masters in Public Administration from Columbia University.
