Veterans Services Office
and American Legion Post 380 will host a ceremony to honor soldiers who have died while serving our nation.

A salute and a special tribute to veterans will be part of the ceremony.
Formally called Decoration Day, Memorial Day originated during the Civil War when widows and grieving family members memorialized their loved ones. Eventually, business owners joined their efforts by closing their businesses for the day and communities across the nation held parades and other observance activities in recognition of our fallen soldiers and sailors.
The Veterans Services Office is a division of Mecklenburg County
Community Support Services. The office serves as a liaison for Mecklenburg County veterans and their families who seek benefits and answers from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. There are currently about 54,000 veterans living in Mecklenburg County - about 6.8 percent of the County's population and more than any other North Carolina county.

Mecklenburg County government offices and agencies will be closed on Monday, May 28 for Memorial Day. This includes all units of the Department of Social Services, the Tax Office, the Elections Office, the Register of Deeds Office, and the Land Use and Environmental Services Agency.
The Mecklenburg County Substance Abuse Center (Detox) is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Department of Social Services Care Line (336-CARE or 336-2273) operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week to report suspected abuse or neglect of children and elderly or disabled adults.
The Health Department clinics will be closed on May 28.
The Public Library's main branch and all other branches will be closed on May 28.
Solid Waste administrative offices and all facilities, except Compost Central, will be closed Memorial Day, May 28. Compost Central will operate 7 a.m. – 3 p.m.
Park and Recreation administrative offices will be closed on May 28. County parks, recreation centers and nature centers will be open on regular schedules.

- Ray's Splash Planet: 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
- Outdoor pools will open May 26: 11 p.m. – 5 p.m., May 27: 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. and May 28: noon - 6 p.m.
