LUESA SOUTH BRINGS ONE-STOP BUILDING AND ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES TO SOUTHERN MECKLENBURG
Charlotte, NC – Getting the permits required to build a house or getting an inspection to comply with environmental rules in southern Mecklenburg County is about to become much easier. On November 25, Mecklenburg County’s Land Use & Environmental Services Agency (LUESA) is moving its satellite office to a new location in Matthews and expanding services. The one-stop office will make it more convenient for customers needing land development, zoning, building code, or environmental protection services.
The expanded LUESA South office will provide:
- Site development plan review and inspection
- Building plan review and permits (new construction, additions and renovations)
- Property appraisal services for tax assessments
- Housing Code compliance
- Groundwater and wastewater services (well and septic permits and inspections)
- Water quality enforcement and erosion control
- Zoning plan review, permits and inspections.
The LUESA South office is a partnership involving Mecklenburg County and the towns of Matthews, Mint Hill and Pineville. All staff for the expanded office will relocate from other agencies, many from LUESA’s main office in uptown Charlotte. The LUESA South office is in the Fullwood Commons development at 1311 Matthews-Mint Hill Road.
The LUESA South office will operate much like its counterpart on the northern side of Mecklenburg County. Since 2003, the LUESA North office in Cornelius has provided a range of environmental and land use services for residents of the County’s three northern Towns. LUESA North serves nearly 5,000 walk-in customers a year, not counting telephone or electronic assistance. The LUESA North office remains open.
LUESA’s main office is located at 700 North Tryon Street in Charlotte.
