HEALTH DEPARTMENT WANTS SUPERMOMS TO SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT BENEFITS OF EATING MORE FRUITS AND VEGGIES
Charlotte, N.C. – More than anyone else, a mom influences what the family eats. She prepares the meals, does the shopping, watches the food budget, and monitors what family members consume.
So who better than Mom to promote the increased intake of fruits and vegetables? A Fruit and Veggie SuperMom, that's who!
The Mecklenburg County Health Department is looking for SuperMoms to serve as role models and spokespersons with Mecklenburg County Fruit and Vegetable Coalition.
You can be a SuperMom if you:
- have children under the age of 18
- live in Mecklenburg County
- try to eat the recommended five servings of produce each day
- provide your children with meals that include fruits and veggies
SuperMoms of all cultural and economic backgrounds are encouraged to enter.
These SuperMoms will be local mothers who are passionate about making certain their families eat the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day. SuperMoms will help take the message of the benefits of more fruits and veggies to mothers across the County.
In addition, each SuperMom will receive a $30 gift card to Wal-Mart and have the chance to network with other parents and share her family story on our Web site and with local media.
The Mecklenburg County Fruit and Vegetable Coalition and the Mecklenburg County Health Department are sponsoring the SuperMom contest, which runs through March 31, 2010.
To nominate a SuperMom, register at the Health Department Web site at www.meckhealth.org/SuperMoms.htm, or download the entry form and send it to Allison Mignery, Mecklenburg County Health Department, 249 Billingsley Road, Charlotte, NC 28211.
