County Manager Names New Director of
Mecklenburg County Child Support Enforcement
Charlotte, NC – Mecklenburg County Manager Harry L. Jones, Sr., has named Joan Kennedy as director of the newly formed Mecklenburg County Child Support Enforcement department.
Kennedy comes to Mecklenburg County from Temple Hills, Maryland, where she has been director of the Prince George’s County Office of Child Support Enforcement since 2004. She has more than 15 years of experience in supervision and management of human services programs.
She holds a Master of Urban Administration/Public Management degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC), certification in municipal administration from UNC Chapel Hill, and certification in management development from Queens University of Charlotte.
Early in her career, Kennedy worked for the City of Charlotte for 13 years in various departments, including the City Manager’s Office, Budget & Evaluation, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Utilities, City of Charlotte Parks & Recreation, and the Customer Service Division.
Kennedy will start her new duties on June 2, 2010.
Last year the state of North Carolina required Mecklenburg County to take on management of Child Support Enforcement. The new County department will have an operating budget of over $7 million and employ 98 workers.
