Park and Recreation Offers Fun and Safe Events For Halloween and Autumn

The Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department offers a wide variety of events and activities for Halloween and Autumn.

Events are offered for all members of the family and are sure to make for a scary good time.

Events include:
• Sunset Family Hayride, McDowell Nature Center, Wed. Oct. 20, 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m., all ages, $5, children 5-under FREE. Bring the family to enjoy a fun hayride through McDowell Nature Preserve. Course Code 16267

• Nature at Night Fest, McDowell Nature Center, Fri. Oct. 22, 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., all ages, FREE.  Peer at the moon through a telescope, roast marshmallows and go on a hayride.  Course Code 16316

• Full Moon Hike, Latta Plantation Nature Center, Fri. Oct. 22, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., ages 7-up, $4. Experience the magic of hiking in the nature preserve guided by the light of the moon. Course Code 16403

• October Fest, Bette Rae Thomas Rec Center, Sat. Oct. 23, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., all ages, $1. Enjoy food, games, prizes, entertainment and more. Course Code 15782

• Halloween Family Pumpkin Carve, Tom Sykes Rec Center, Sat. Oct. 23, 10:30 a.m., all ages, $10. Carve a pumpkin to take home and put on your porch for Halloween. Pumpkins and supplies will be provided. Course Code 15838

• Halloween Party, Wear your favorite scary or funny costume and celebrate Halloween with music, games and more, all ages, $1. Thomasboro School Rec Site,  Wed. • Fall Festival at Albemarle Road, Albemarle Road Rec Center, Fri. Oct. 29, 6 p.m.-8 p.m., all ages, FREE. Join us for family fun, food, music and outdoor activities. Course Code 16396

• Creepy Crawly Critter Celebration! Reedy Creek Nature Center, Fri. Oct. 29, 6 p.m.-9 p.m., all ages, FREE. See for yourself how all creatures play an important role in our environment. Live animals, costume contest, marshmallow roast, and trick or treating all included. Course Code 16225

• Ray's Haunted Tour and Halloween Carnival, Ray's Splash Planet, Fri. Oct. 29, 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m., all ages, $2 carnival in gym, $3 haunted tour. Join us for the spook-tacular haunted tour through the facility and the carnival in the gym. Come for games, contests and of course trick-or-treating. Costumes are strongly encouraged. • Haunted Hallway, Bette Rae Thomas Rec Center, Fri. Oct. 29, 4 p.m.-5:30 p.m., all ages, $1. Enjoy a fun and interactive alternative to a traditional haunted house. There will also be games and prizes! Course Code 15860
