The event is the third meeting regarding the budget that Mecklenburg County staff are hosting with community groups around the County. The purpose of the sessions is to inform Mecklenburg residents about the current budget conditions before the County rolls out its budget for next fiscal year and receive input from residents on what is most important to them in terms of County-funded services. Information gathered at the meetings will be provided to County Manager Harry L. Jones Sr. for consideration in developing a recommended budget for Fiscal Year 2012 (FY12), which begins in June 2011. The information also will be available to the Board of County Commissioners as it adopts the FY12 budget.
The budget session is being hosted by the Town of Cornelius at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, at Cornelius Town Hall, 21445 Catawba Ave., Cornelius. Scheduled to speak are Harry L. Jones Sr., County manager; Hyong Yi, County budget director; Cornelius Mayor Jeff Tarte; Jennifer Roberts, chairman of the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners; and Karen Bentley, Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners, District 1.
The meeting is open to the public and RSVPs are not necessary.
Similar meetings have been held in conjunction with the Town of Matthews, West Boulevard Community Roundtable, East Charlotte Community Partners, and FreeMoreWest Partners with more than 150 residents from all over the County participating in discussions.
