Supporting seniors in the community through outreach, senior nutrition services, and connections to services are just a few of the ways that DSS is helping older adults in Mecklenburg County.
“We are providing this event to connect grandparents in our community with the information and resources they need to help raise their grandchildren in the best way possible,” said DSS Director Mary Wilson. “One of our major focuses this year is to educate our seniors who are raising grandchildren about the services available to them. This event gives us that platform in a friendly, fun way.”
All grandparents and other residents interested in learning more about how to access services and connect with other caregivers are encouraged to attend this inaugural event:

This event will also be beneficial to agencies and groups who work with grandparents. Workshops will include information on legal issues, financial resources and eligibility, and working with the school system. Grandparents who are currently raising grandchildren will be featured speakers to tell about their personal experiences and offer insight to other caregivers.
