The public is welcome. The purpose of the meeting is to get public input on Mecklenburg County’s solid waste disposal options and the role of the Foxhole Landfill.
Mecklenburg County recently received a proposal to extend the current disposal agreement with the Speedway Landfill for at least one additional year, beginning July 2012. This means that the disposal of residential waste at the Foxhole Landfill is no longer being considered at this time.
Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners Chairman Jennifer Roberts and District 6 Commissioner Bill James are scheduled to attend, along with representatives from Mecklenburg County Land Use and Environmental Services.
The Foxhole Landfill Advisory Council was established in 2000 by the Waste Management Advisory Board (WMAB) to act as an advisory board to the WMAB, which was established in 1988 by the Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) to provide citizen input on solid waste management issues facing the County.
