Queens' Jubilee
Mecklenburg Joins German Sister Community in Celebration of Queen Charlotte's 250th
3/17/2011
Mecklenburg County and its partner and counterpart, Mecklenburg- Vorpommern in Germany are celebrating the 250th anniversary of the coronation of Princess Sophia Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz to Queen of Great Britain in 1761.

Mecklenburg County Commission Chairman Jennifer Roberts has been invited to Germany to take part in the 250th Queens Jubilee.

The Queen's Jubilee is in June and is part of "Queen Charlotte Year 2011" a year long celebration of Princess Sophia of Charlotte.

At the age of 17 Sophia Charlotte left her Mecklenburg home country and travelled to London. There she married King George III on 8 September 1761. A fortnight later, on 22 September 1761, the coronation of the married couple took place. Thus, the Mecklenburg Princess Sophia Charlotte became Queen Charlotte.
