WHAT: 2011 Mecklenburg County Veterans Stand Down
A one-stop event providing access to community resources for veterans who are homeless 

WHEN:  Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2011
  8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE: Grady Cole Center
  310 North Kings Drive, Charlotte, N.C.

Anthony L. Dawson, Associate Medical Center Director, Veterans Administration
Joe Rapley, Stand Down Committee
Darryl Crenshaw, Stand Down Committee
Robert Livingston, Veteran, formerly homeless

WHY: The Stand Down provides a welcoming place for the veteran who is homeless to spend a day receiving care and information. The outreach effort is one way to connect with veterans in need. Participants will have one-stop access to assistance and community resources provided by 78 vendors. Hot meals, medical and dental care, social activities, personal hygiene care, clothing and help applying for military benefits will be available. The event is made possible through a partnership of Mecklenburg County Community Support Services and the department’s Homeless Support Services and Veterans Services Office divisions, along with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department.
