For those who have timely filed an informal appeal with the Office of the Tax Assessor or a timely formal appeal with the Board of Equalization and Review, these additional tools are now available:
- Phone Assistance: A special appeals support team of appraisers, customer service, and management staff has been established. The team will handle the phone calls, faxes and email correspondence with the taxpayers regarding appeals. The special appeals support line is 704-432-7250. Calls to CharMeck 311 about appeals will be routed to this support team.
- Web Help: A special website devoted specifically to appeals has been created. Appeals.Charmeck.org contains details about the appeals process, how property was valued, instructions for filing appeals, FAQs, etc. Content will be continually updated for outstanding 2011 appeals as well 2012 appeals. Board of Equalization and Review information and activities will be available on this site.
A notice to the public about the schedule for the Board of Equalization and Review (BER) will run as an advertisement in
The Charlotte Observer on April 27, 28 and 29. It details the days the BER will meet (Every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) and the hours the BER will hear appeals (starting at 9:00 a.m.). The Board of Equalization and Review is expected to adjourn for 2012 on June 4.
All 42,000 property owners who have filed informal appeals to the Office of the Tax Assessor have received a response. The 9,717 property owners who decided to take their appeal to the next level had 15 days to file with the Board of Equalization and Review. Nearly 700 property owners have taken their appeals to the third level, the State Property Tax Commission.
