Named after Donald Hayman to proudly honor his work in public service, the award is given to those individuals who exemplify high standards of service to the public and/or organizations they serve.
Jones was given a plaque and a scholarship will be awarded by the MPA Alumni Association to a current student in Jones’ name. The MPA Alumni Association Treasurer will recommend a scholarship amount to the MPA Alumni Association Board for approval.
”I am honored and humbled to receive such an esteemed honor from my peers," Jones said. "Previous winners of this award are giants in North Carolina public service. To have my name inscribed next to them is high praise indeed.”
Jones became County Manager in 2000. He had served as Assistant County Manager for nine years prior.
