This month is set aside each year to encourage all residents of the 26th Judicial District (Mecklenburg County) to applaud the efforts of jurors who support the justice system and fulfill this important civic responsibility on a daily basis, as well as to raise awareness of the importance of jury service. Juror Appreciation Month will conclude with the 12th Annual Juror Appreciation Week from July 23 through July 27 at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse.
Highlights of the events include a special recognition ceremony to kick off the activities on Monday, July 23 at 9:30 a.m. in Room 5450 of the Mecklenburg County Courthouse (832 E. 4th Street). The Proclamation declaring July 23-27, 2012 as Juror Appreciation Week in the 26th Judicial District signed by the Honorable Lisa C. Bell and the Honorable Richard D. Boner will be read aloud. Members of the Mecklenburg County Jury Commission and other court officials will also be present.
This event is sponsored primarily by Justice Initiatives, Inc. Other contributors include the Hilton Center City; Mecklenburg County; Jason’s Deli; Dunkin’ Donuts; and Showmars. Movies will be shown at various times during the week in the Jury Assembly Room. Free popcorn and refreshments will be provided, courtesy of the Courtside Café. Local restaurants, including the Courtside Café, Showmars, and Chambers Restaurant in the Crowne Plaza Hotel will give jurors lunch discounts during the week. There will be daily prize drawings for gifts.
Guest speakers are scheduled, and court personnel will hold question-and-answer sessions throughout the day in the Jury Assembly Room to give jurors the opportunity to speak with them about their roles in the court system. Mecklenburg County Public Information staff will provide information sessions that highlight the role of County Government services to the citizens of Mecklenburg County.
