About Mountain Island Lake Marine Commission

The Mountain Island Lake Marine Commission was established in October 1997 by a joint resolution of Gaston, Lincoln and Mecklenburg Counties after the N.C. General Assembly passed legislation authorizing such commissions. Comprised of seven citizens appointed from the three counties, in which the lake and its shoreline are located, the commission is considered a unit of local government.

About Lake Wylie Marine Commission

The Lake Wylie Marine Commission was established through joint actions of the North and South Carolina General Assemblies in 1987. Gaston and Mecklenburg Counties in North Carolina and York County in South Carolina passed joint actions consistent with the states legislation to establish the Commission. The Commission’s authority includes all matters relating to or affecting the use of Lake Wylie and its shoreline area within all three counties. The commission has nine members with three members each appointed by the Gaston and Mecklenburg Board of Commissioners and the York County Council.
