Mecklenburg County and the City of Charlotte concluded their support of the 2014 SkyShow Charlotte for the July 4th holiday.
This year’s event in Uptown included a fireworks display at the BB&T Stadium after the Charlotte Knights’ baseball game. In addition to the more than 10,000 spectators inside the baseball stadium, the fireworks were watched by thousands more who observed the show from and nearby Romare Bearden Park.
As in previous years, City and County agencies worked to ensure that this year’s festivities were safe for all those who attended.
Earlier this week, the celebration was declared an extraordinary event, a precautionary measure which allowed for additional public safety resources as part of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s operations. Partnerships with the Charlotte Fire Department (CFD), Mecklenburg EMS Agency (MEDIC), the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office and federal partners were critical to CMPD’s success.
During the event, there were no juvenile arrests and two adult arrests—one for possession of marijuana and another for possession of a stolen firearm. The department also responded to multiple service calls related to illegal fireworks complaints. The CFD and MEDIC also treated one individual for a minor injury.
