Help Prevent Welfare Fraud

The Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services reminds residents that it is against the law to make false statements or to willfully withhold information when applying for public assistance.

Program Integrity UnitThe act of doing so is known as welfare fraud – an offense that could result in criminal charges and/or the loss of benefits.
 
To report suspected welfare fraud in Mecklenburg County, please contact the Program Integrity Unit at 704-353-0600 (Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.). You will be able to speak to an investigator trained in collecting the necessary information.
 
You can also call the 24-hour automated Welfare Fraud Hotline number at 704-353-0400. All information you provide is confidential, and you can remain anonymous.
