Shields announced the promotion of Finance Director Dena Diorioto assistant County manager for fiscal control, policies and standards compliance. Diorio joins John McGillicuddy and Michelle Lancaster-Sandlin as assistant County managers serving on Shields’ executive team (Shields has changed the “general manager” title to “assistant County manager” to clarify the accountability and executive management
oversight role of the positions and to adopt the conventional job title for these positions within local government).
In this new role, Diorio will provide executive management oversight of the County’s Financial Services Department (comprising Central Finance, Human Services Finance, and the Office of Tax Collector), as well as MeckLINKFinance and the Assessor’s Office. In collaboration with the County’s Deputy County Attorney/Chief Compliance Officer Tyrone Wade, Diorio also will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies for a key component of the County’s compliance program: fiscal controls, and County policies and standards. Diorio will remain the County’s finance officer, with Wanda Reevesserving as interim director of the Financial Services Department.
“We have talented and dedicated employees throughout our organization,” said Shields. “This reorganization reflects and recognizes Dena’s expertise and sustained high performance, while strengthening our long-term management capabilities to achieve the Board’s goals for the community.”
Shields also named Associate General Manager Leslie Johnsonas interim assistant county manager to fulfill the responsibilities he previously had as general manager. As a result, Johnson will be providing executive oversight of the Land Use & Environmental Services Agency (LUESA), Park and Recreation Department, Economic Development Office and Historical Landmarks Commission.
Additionally, Shields has shifted the reporting lines for the Human Resources director position so this position reports directly to him.
