Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s outdoor swimming pools and spraygrounds will open for the summer season over Memorial Day weekend. Pool admission is $1 and spraygrounds are FREE.
Pools will officially open on a weekend schedule starting Saturday, May 24. Pools will operate every weekend through Labor Day (Monday, Sept. 1) and weekdays beginning June 11. Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools are:

- Double Oaks Pool, 1200 Newland Rd., 704-336-2653
Regular operating hours for swimming will be Saturdays 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sundays 1 - 5 p.m., Monday–Friday (including Memorial Day Monday) noon-6 p.m.
Spraygrounds (view locations
) will open on Friday, May 23 and close on Labor Day. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Free Swim Lessons Offered at Outdoor Pools
Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools will offer FREE swimming lessons for all ages at both pools. Registration for lessons will be accepted, beginning on Wednesday, June 11, at the pool you wish to attend. Registrations will be taken every Wednesday beginning at noon for the following week only. Registration is week-by-week and must be done in person. Children under 18 interested in registering for swim lessons must be accompanied by an adult. No phone reservations will be taken. All reservations are first come, first served. Spots are limited.
World's Largest Swimming Lesson Event June 20
Park and Rec will participate as a host site for the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson 2014 (WLSL) on Friday, June 20 beginning at 11 a.m. Double Oaks Pool will serve as the venue for the event which is a global effort aiming to spread awareness about the importance of teaching children how to swim. Waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities around the world will host local WLSL lessons simultaneously in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record. If you would like to participate in the WLSL, please register at either of the two neighborhood pools.
