​In addition to passing the budget, the Board also approved moving forward with adding a quarter-cent sales and use tax referendum to the November ballot.

If passed by voters, the additional tax will generate approximately $34 million. Commissioners voted to provide 80 percent of the proceeds to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to supplement employee salaries.

Of the remaining proceeds, 7.5 percent would go to supplement Central Piedmont Community College employee salaries, 7.5 percent to the Arts and Science Council, and 5 percent to the Public Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County.
