County, Red Cross Warming Center To Remain Open As Winter Storm Hits Charlotte
2/11/2014

The expected winter storm is upon us and the American Red Cross, together with Mecklenburg County and Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management is keeping the Warming Center open to make sure everyone can escape from the cold.

The Center will remain open until noon tomorrow, Thursday, February 13. The Center is located at 618 North College Street in the Mecklenburg County Homeless Resource Center.

Its important to note that the Warming Station, which is Mecklenburg County's Homeless Resource Center, is not a shelter with cots. The building has bathrooms available and seating at tables.

County Security is present along with volunteers from the American Red Cross. Water, coffee and snacks are available.

“We are opening the Warming Center due to the severe winter snow and ice storm that is forecasted to continue over the next couple of days,” said Wayne Broome, director of Charlotte Mecklenburg Emergency Management. “We can ensure that everyone who needs a warm place to stay out of the cold has the opportunity to keep warm.”
