News Conference to announce implementation of the License Plate Recognition Project, a partnership between the Tax Collector’s Office and Sheriff’s Office. The Sheriff’s Office has mounted special cameras and laptops with license plate recognition software in two marked department vehicles. The Tax Collector’s Office provides a database with license plate numbers of owners who have failed to pay their annual vehicle tax. When the cameras detect a plate from the database, a deputy places a sticker on the vehicle with notice that the tax must be paid within two days.
Media will be able to do a ride-along with the specially equipped vehicles. Rain location will be the Stancil Conference Center at 4th & McDowell.
