Board Adopts FY13 Operating and Capital Spending Budgets

The Board of County Commissioners has adopted an operating budget for fiscal year 2012-2013 totaling $1.4 billion. This will result in a property tax rate of 79.22 cents -- the lowest rate since 2005. The Board also approved 13 Capital projects totaling $130.4 million. Video 

Individual and Business Personal Property Discovery Notices to be Mailed

Certain property owners who failed to list their personal property by the January 31 deadline will have until July 13 to reconcile the assessment to be sent to them by the Mecklenburg County Assessor’s Office. There are approximately 8,700 Business Personal Property discovery assessments and 6,600 Individual Personal Property assessments outstanding. The Automatic Assessment Discovery job will run this weekend, with a notice date of June 13. Property owners have 30 days from the date of the notice to respond/contest the assessments they receive. The deadline date is July 13, 2012. Property owners with questions about their assessment can call CharMeck 311 or they can go to the Mecklenburg County Assessor's Office’s Office at 700 E Stonewall Street, Suite 103. Read more

The Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Library is now operating on a summer schedule. All branches are closed on Sundays. Detailed schedule

Free Swimming Lessons Offered at Park and Rec's Outdoor Pools

Registration for swim lessons will be accepted, beginning on Wednesday June 13, at the pool you wish to attend. Registration will be taken every Wednesday beginning at noon for the following week only. Registration for lessons is done week-by-week and must be done in person. No phone reservations will be taken. All reservations are first come, first served and spots are limited. 

Healthy Weight, Healthy Child Initiative

Did you know that in 2009 more than 1 in 4 public high school students (28%) was obese or overweight? The Healthy Weight, Healthy Child Initiative is working to reverse the pediatric obesity trend in Mecklenburg County. Check out the video.
