Mecklenburg County FY13 Budget
The Mecklenburg Board of County Commissioners will hold its budget public hearing at 6 p.m. in the Meeting Chamber of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center. Straw vote is May 29 and 30; adoption is June 5. For information on the FY13 budget, visit the Office of Management and Budget web page
Tax Relief Application Deadline is June 1, 2012
Certain Mecklenburg County home owners may qualify for one of three state programs offering property tax relief, but the deadline for application is drawing near. North Carolina allows low-income homestead exclusions for qualifying people. Qualifying owners must apply with the Assessor's Office between January 1 and June 1. If you qualify, you can receive an exclusion of either $25,000, or 50% (whichever is greater) of the taxable value of your residence which is determined as of January 1 of the year for which the exclusion is claimed. Inaugural Crowns of Enterprise Awards Event Set for May 24
The inaugural Crowns of Enterprise Awards event is from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m., at the Palmer Building, 2601 E. 7th Street in uptown Charlotte. The event will honor small, minority and women owned businesses in the community. Mayor Anthony Fox, City Councilmembers Mitchell, Mayfield, and Pickering as well as County Commissioner Leake will be in attendance.
Outdoor Pools, Spraygrounds Open Memorial Day Weekend; Free Swim Lessons Again this Year
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s outdoor swimming pools and spraygrounds will open for the summer season just in time for Memorial Day weekend! Pool admission is $1 and spraygrounds are FREE. Spraygrounds open Friday, May 25 and remain open through Labor Day. Pools open Saturday, May 26 and will be open every weekend through Labor Day. Pools will be open on weekdays after school closes (June 11). Park and Recreation’s outdoor pools are:

Regular operating hours for swimming will be Saturdays 11 a.m. - 5 p.m., Sundays 1 - 5 p.m., Monday–Friday (including Memorial Day Monday) noon-6 p.m. Registration for swim lessons will be accepted, beginning on Wednesday, June 13, at the pool you wish to attend. Registration will be taken every Wednesday beginning at noon for the following week only. Registration is week-by-week and must be done in person. No phone reservations will be taken. All reservations are first come, first served. Spots are limited.
