Top News stories Nov. 23 - Dec. 6, 2011
WHY: This list will be issued on twice monthly to assist media in identifying potential news stories that reflect the total spectrum of Mecklenburg County government services.

1. BOCC Meets Dec. 6
The Board of County Commissioners will meet on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 6 p.m., at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center. Commissioners will recognize Mecklenburg County’s role in helping to secure a $4.9 million federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) grant that will be used for sustainability panning across 14 counties in both North and South Carolina. The BOCC will also approve the purchase of additional properties in the Hazard Mitigation “Quick Buy” program and review the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education FY 11-12 adopted budget.

2. 2011 World AIDS Day
The 2011 World AIDS Day in Charlotte is Dec. 1. The main event is a rally in Marshall Park from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with the focus on those living a positive life with HIV. Additional events

4. Memorial Stadium Site Master plan
On Nov. 17, 2011, Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation held a community meeting to provide information and solicit feedback for the American Legion Memorial Stadium and the Grady Cole Center site master plan. The public can provide input by filling out a survey. The deadline is Dec. 2.

5. Worried about Bed Bugs?
The Mecklenburg County Health Department Environmental Health Division handles all complaints about bed bugs. If you have a concern or complaint about bed bugs at a local hotel or other public establishment, call 704-336-5100 or submit an online request.
