Youth:
 

Youth Athletics:
Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation offers a wide variety of athletic programs to youth participants throughout the year. All youth athletics programs are Recreation Center based and take place at various parks and recreation centers throughout Mecklenburg County. Operation Teen Outreach:
Teen mentoring program is designed to encourage positive and critical thinking, promote self respect, teach life skills, and develop leaders. This group meets every Sunday from 1p- 3p at the recreation center.
 
Nutri-Teen:
This program is design to teach participants how to prepare quick and easy healthy food for everyday life while having fun. Teens will be able to look at food and health differently, in order to maintain and control their diet with fun healthy meals and tips to stay fit and feel great. Classes will be held every Wednesday for ages 11 to 13 from 6p-7p and for ages 14 to 17 from 7p-8p.
 
Young Champions Cheerleading:
students ages 5 to 15 are taught cheerleading techniques such as cheers and chants with arm motions, jumps, leaps and mounts. Meets every Thursday from 6p-8p only a $6 registration fee and a $5 per class fee.
 
Young Champions Self Defense:
 
Incorporates the most effective defense techniques from many martial art systems with a comprehensive safety awareness course to develop an unparalleled curriculum for students ages 5 to 15. Meets every Tuesday from 6p-8p only a $8 registration fee and $5 per class fee.
 
North Carolina Dance Community Outreach:

This program provides free, accessible, high quality dance instruction and performance opportunities to over 41 students here at the recreation center from ages 7 to 10. Selection for this program will be determined by open auditions for boys and girls, financial need and commitment of the parents to the program. Contact the center to find out when then next audition will be at 704.567.1941.

 
21st Century After School Program in partnership with Sylvan Learning Center: This program helps students meet state and local student standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math; offers students a broad array of enrichment activities that can complement their regular academic programs; and offers literacy and other educational services to the families of participating children. Please contact the center to find out if your child qualifies for this program.
 
 
Seniors:
 
Wii Fitness Club:
This video technology helps to improve memory, coordination, balance, and flexibility by simulate the physical motions in virtual games of golf, baseball, bowling, tennis, and other sports. This program is offered every Friday from 10a-11a.
 
Oil Painting: 
This program is a self paced oil painting social activity for all levels. Oil paints have been most artists’ first choice for hundreds of years. Come join us every Thursday from 10am-11am to share your talents and release the creativity within you!

Food and Nutrition for Seniors:
This program is designed to provide healthy concepts of daily meals and overall health for seniors. The program will not only present information concerning healthy eating, but also discuss nutritional intake in regards to diseases. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 11am-1pm. Cost is $7 per month

Power Walking:
This program is designed to provide a simple yet effective way to give your whole body a thorough workout. You may also discover that power walking opens you to new experiences and that it brings mental well being as well as physical strength.  Come walk with us every Tuesday and Thursday from 10am-12pm.

Senior Recreation Club: Meets the first Tuesday of each month from 10:30a-12p and visitors are welcomed. Seniors come together in a caring and supportive atmospheres for social, recreational and educational opportunities for age 55-up. Sessions include light refreshments, seminars, classes, field trips or special events.
