Charlotte, NC – Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation adults, age 18 and older, to register for a weekend camping trip to Hammocks Beach State Park, near Swansboro in eastern North Carolina. Participants will depart from Reedy Creek Nature Center at 8:30am on Saturday, September 5, 2009 and return at about 5pm the following Monday.

Hammocks Beach is on Bear Island.  It has one of North Carolina’s most pristine beaches with a turtle nesting ground and a great place to watch migrant sea birds. Activities include hiking, exploring Bear Island’s marshes and tidal pools, guided fishing, and relaxing on the beach.

Cost is $190 per person, which includes van transportation, guides, all camping equipment, and meals (minus traveling lunches). Participants must attend a pre-trip meeting Thursday evening September 3 at 6pm to fill out all required forms. Space is limited to sign-up now. Registration deadline is September 2.
