Indoor Swimming Pools Open to Public

Charlotte, NC-- Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department will operate the indoor swimming pools for public use Mondays-Thursdays, noon until 5:30pm, now through August 20, 2009 at:

West Charlotte High School, 2219 Senior Drive
and Providence High School, 1800 Pineville Matthews Road.

This is according to a new joint agreement between Park and Recreation and Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools which took effect today (August 3--Public swimming began today!). Admission charge is $1 for individual swimmers. Group reservations are also available with advance reservations. For more information call Jeff Carwile: 704 336-7852.

Both pools are 25 yards long with depths from 4ft to 12ft, each with a diving board in the deep end.

Under the agreement Park and Recreation will staff and manage the pools, and CMS will maintain equipment, pay utilities and provide any needed repairs. After August 20, the pools will revert to exclusive use by the schools during the new school year.

Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department favors public use of these pools and hopes this short term agreement will lead to a longer term arrangement with CMS for all of next summer that will also include the opportunity for swim lessons and other recreation programs at the pools.
