Public Invited To New Berewick Rec Center

Charlotte, NC -- Adults, teens and kids who live in or near ear the Steele Creek area in Southwest Charlotte are invited to visit Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation’s new Berewick Recreation Center, 5910 Dixie River Road, January 8-10, 2010. The center will be open for people to drop-by:
  • Friday, January 8, 2009, 1:30pm-7:30pm
  • Saturday, January 9, 9am-4:30pm
  • Sunday, January 10, 1pm-4:30pm

There will be arts and crafts classes, games, contests, and fun activities for visitors including entertainment by magicians and storytellers! Schedules and demonstrations of upcoming programs will be available. The staff will take visitors on tours and are eager to hear what programs the public would like to see in the future.

The new recreation center features a gymnasium, classroom and activity space, plus a “playhouse” room for young children. The center is located in the same building as Berewick Elementary School and shares a common parking lot with the school. This site is another example of a “co-location” of facilities by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department.

The official grand opening ceremony will be at the recreation center Friday, January 8 at 9am. Mecklenburg County Commission Chairman Jennifer Roberts, Park and Recreation Commission Chairman Brad Pearce, and Park and Recreation’s Director of Community and Recreation Center Services, Lola Massad will make brief remarks. Public and media are invited to the ceremony.
