Charlotte, NC – Spring is just around the corner.  Now is the time to think about updating yards and gardens with plants from Mecklenburg County 4-H Club which is now taking orders for various berry plants, fruit trees, and flowering trees and shrubs. The deadline to order is March 5. All proceeds directly support Mecklenburg youth and teen summer camps and leadership programs.

The following varieties are offered this year:

  • Blueberries: Tifblue, Premier, Baldwin and Brightwell
  • Blackberries: Ouachita and Triple Crown
  • Muscadines: Cowart and Doreen

Above plants are $8 each ($7 each if you order ten or more)

  • Fig trees: Brown Turkey and Celeste, $15 each
  • Apple trees:  Red Delicious, Yellow Delicious, Stayman, $12 each
  • Pear Trees:  Keiffer, Bartlett, Moonglow, $12 each
  • Peach Trees:  Red Haven and Belle of Georgia, $10 each
  • Plum Trees:  Methley and Santa Rosa, $10 each
  • Cherry Trees:  Kwanza, Yoshina, $18 each
  • Red, Pink, and Kousa White English Dogwoods:  $15 each
  • Flowering Crabapple Trees:  Red and Silver, $15 each
  • Red, White, Puple, and Pink Crape Myrtles:  $10 each
  • Forsythia Shrubs:  $8 each
  • Blue Hydrangea Shrubs:  $12 each

Blueberry, blackberry and muscadine plants are sold in one-gallon containers and are three years old.  All fruit trees, flower trees and flower shrubs are sold bare root.  Fig trees, Dogwood trees, Crape Myrtles, Flowering Crabapple and Forsythia shrubs are 2-3 feet tall.  Peach trees are 3-4 feet tall.  Cherry and Plum trees are 4-5 feet tall.  Apple and Pear trees are 5-6 feet tall.  Hydrangea shrubs are 12-18 inches tall. Blueberry bushes must be planted with other varieties to produce fruit.  Blackberry plants are thornless, erect-growing varieties and do not need a trellis.  Muscadine vines are self-fertile varieties and need a trellis.
