Volunteers still have time to sign up to participate in "Building On The Dream"
Charlotte – January 12, 2009 –
Building On The Dream, an annual volunteer event organized by Hands On Charlotte, is expected to involve as many as 500 volunteers this year at 20 locations around Charlotte. The event honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through community service.
Building On The Dream invites volunteers to participate in a range of service projects on Saturday, January 17 and on the MLK holiday on January 19. These projects focus on fighting poverty and helping challenged neighborhoods. See a list of projects and locations and sign-up to participate at
Building On The Dream is sponsored by Duke Energy, The Home Depot and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Projects kick off Saturday, January 17 with volunteer registration/sign-in (8am-9am) and an opening celebration (9am-9:30am) at

. Various projects that day run from 10am to 1pm and resume at various times on Monday.
Building On The Dream is part of an ongoing national initiative for public service. President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden are scheduled to take part in service projects in other cities on January 19.
