Charlotte, NC— Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department invites boxing fans to attend the 2009 Queen City Invitational Tournament, starting at 5pm, October 10, 2009, at Sugaw Creek Recreation Center, 943 West Sugar Creek Road. Admission is $5 for ages 12-and-under, $10 for ages 13-adult. Bouts will run late into the evening.
The invitational features some of the best young amateur boxers in North Carolina. Boxing clubs from Charlotte, Greensboro, Raleigh, Winston-Salem, Wilson, Asheville, Fayetteville and Camp Lejeune are expected to participate, as well as clubs from other southeastern states. The event is open to both male and female boxers in separate categories and will showcase several female boxers who will be eligible to qualify for the Olympics in 2012, for the first time ever.The Charlotte Boxing Academy is a non-profit organization created in a partnership with Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation and the Police Athletic League.
