Charlotte, NC-Our Children's Memorial Walkway Inc invites the community to attend the 6th annual "Charlotte Remembers 9/11 Service" on Saturday September 11, 2010 at 8:30am. The Walkway is located in Frazier Park
, 1201 West 4th street. This is the 9th anniversary of 9/11.
It will be a time of special remembrance of those who died at the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and in the four airplanes brought down that day. An Honor Guard from the Charlotte Fire Dept will open the service, followed by a prayer, releasing of balloons with 9/11 tags, and the Pledge of Allegiance. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department will provide a bugler for taps. There will be time for anyone who would like to say a few words to do it.
Our Children’s Memorial Walkway now has more than 1,000 engraved bricks in memory of children of all ages, plus a beautiful garden with plants, flowers and statues of playing children. Families from 11 states, Canada and England have adopted engraved bricks in the walkway in memory of their loved ones.
The walkway was created in 2001 through a partnership between Park and Recreation and several grief groups.
