Charlotte, NC-- Gaston Community Action, Inc. and Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department will host an “information festival” for residents who may qualify for assistance in weatherizing their homes. The festival is on Wednesday, March 10 with two sessions, 11am-1pm or 5pm-7pm, at Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center, 2921 Tuckaseegee Road.
Families with incomes below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level or households with at least one member receiving cash assistance payments under SSI (Social Security) or TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) may qualify for weatherization assistance. Assistance is available for qualifying residents who own homes, rent, or live in mobile homes.
The information festival is conducted by the Weatherization Assistance Program, administered through the NC Department of Commerce. Gaston Community Action, Inc. is the agency that delivers these weatherization services in Mecklenburg County. This program aims to reduce energy costs by installing insulation and other measures to improve energy efficiency of homes. Trained technicians will evaluate the needs of each home by conducting an energy audit.
An outreach specialist will bring applications to the festival and answer questions from residents who are interested in this assistance. Because of the demand for services, eligible applicants could be placed on a waiting list for services.
