Young Athletes is a Special Olympics outreach program that introduces sports to children under the age of 7.

Celebrity dog trainer and author Kyra Sundance and the Sundance Dog Team will perform three shows at this Saturday's Pedigree® Bark in the Park Presented by Food Lion.

Park and Rec invites coaches with teams interested in playing basketball, ages 9-10, 11-12, 13-14 or 15-16, to register now through May 13 for the upcoming summer Hot Hoops season. The fee is $400 per team.

The celebration is Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 3 p.m. Toby Creek Greenway is located in the University City area and connects the 7.1 mile-long Mallard / Clark’s Creek Greenway to and through the campus of UNC Charlotte.

Bella DeLaura, a 4 1/2 –year old miniature dachshund, has been chosen as winner of Mecklenburg County Park and Recreation Department’s 2011 Top Dog Photo Contest. The other two finalists were Boss and Zoe, both German shorthaired pointers.

Revolution Park Golf Course will hold a special ceremony to rename the golf course the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Golf Course at Revolution Park on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 3 p.m.

The 11th Annual Tot’s Olympics is Friday, May 13, 2011, from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., at the Irwin Belk Track and Football Complex on the campus of Johnson C. Smith University.

The FREE summit is Thurs., April 14, 5:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m., at Naomi Drenan Recreation Center.

The celebration features activities and live entertainment for all ages.

Hats off to Parks is the first in a series of “Park Parties” that will be held to raise funds for park projects throughout the county.

Families who have lost a loved one of any age are invited to bring a lawn chair and attend. The service starts at 2 p.m.

The tournament is at Renaissance Park Golf Course, 1525 W. Tyvola Rd. Registration is April 1 - June 17.
